LionafriQ Radio is a Kenyan promotional (non-commercial) online radio, built, ran and managed by Electronic Dance Music (EDM) enthusiasts. The radio is built to offer an ecstatic musical experience, shying away from the mainstream music scene. We dig deep for a specific bar of quality music from Africa and beyond. Playlists are mainly made of EDM, sub-genres House Music, Chillstep, Drum and Bass, Electronic, Dance, Trance, Trap, Dubstep, Reggaestep/Dub, etc. However, LionafriQ Radio may occasionally deviate from these genres for irresistible music.
Conceived in 2016, in the humble comforts of a campus hostel, this radio was set up to step in and showcase quality music from DIY music producers, commonly refereed to as ‘Bedroom Production.’ Often stumbling on good music from local producers but identifying no platform to contain such music led to LionafriQ Conception. To date, LionafriQ stands on this foundation and notably, this is home to many remixes, bootlegs and edits. Over the years, we’ve seen a steady growth and now have many producers and record labels reaching out and proudly, we are home to much more good music that we initially dreamed.
On top of our web radio platform, LionafriQ provides its followers with scene updates, artists’ interviews and music playlists, ensuring we remain true to the culture. We’ve also accommodated a music sharing avenues in platforms such as Soundcloud and YouTube channel, where we curate playlists, engage artists and/or post new releases every now and then. We’ll expand to new platforms whenever we see the need.
Please Note that Our YouTube Channel posts music that is (1) submitted to LionafriQ Radio with permissions or (2) Shareable free music (creative commons) which may include remixes.
Any artist, however, with a problem of the use of their music on our channel or platform should alert us though our contact page as soon as possible.
To ensure the quality and legitimacy of music, LionafriQ Radio gets its music from three main sources:
1. Direct Submissions through our submission page. This is the most available means for anyone to make a submission. Kindly ensure you follow the procedure stipulated. Once received, we evaluate the track and give feedback accordingly. We strive to respond to all emails but sometimes this may take a while.
2. Direct Submissions through our email address from subscribed individuals and entities such as record labels. Over time, just like most social beings, we create friends who occasionally plug us with music. We may provide them access to our Google Drive folder or they provide us with the links to theirs. These friends include entities such as record labels, who provide us with music in bulk, or artists sending us albums or EPs. Most of these tracks already pass our requirements and only need a quick final check before being added to our playlists.
3. From direct downloads from credible music publishing tools. Music publishing sites bridge the gap between releases and access to music. We may get music from these sources. Artists who provide direct links to their music fall under this category.
All aspects of LionafriQ Radio are run by a small team of music enthusiasts who do not mind devoting available time and resources to manage this platform. This team handles both the front-end (website postings, playlist curation, branding, social media, management, etc) and back-end (website and radio server management, music updates, contact gathering, IT, etc) aspects of the platforms.
To ensure an ethical platform, LionafriQ has by all means kept its website and social media pages free from targeted ads which may lower user experience. LionafriQ Radio does not seek any monetary advantage to post releases or feature artists. Without many conventional revenue-generating avenues in today’s wide wide web, a question of how this platforms is financially managed arises.
This platform is run from the actual pockets of the individuals. Since expenses are often incurred, we may occasionally have branded materials such as apparel for sale to help cater for bills such as server and website maintenance. These materials are made by us and would go a great way to help run this platform.
Additionally, while not required, Paypal Donations can be made via this link.
LionafriQ Radio does not intend any Copyright Infringement. We do not sell content or give away bought content. LionafriQ Radio does not benefit directly from music shared on this platforms. We do not post external ads on our website or channels and have taken up upon ourselves to manage this platform.
On the contrary, we believe in extending a friendly handshake with artists and record labels by letting them know that we are playing their music through various means. This networking, in return, has enabled us to reach even more upcoming artists who also strongly believe in what we do. Airplay is intended for Live Streaming only, most preferably by channels provided on this site. However, if any of the artists/labels have a problem with the use of their content, please message us and content will be removed as soon as possible.
